Melodious Warbler on Texel

Icterine Warbler is a scarce breeding bird on Texel with an estimated 80 breeding pairs. Especially at farms lined with trees and rich undergrowth you often can hear his loud exuberant singing. The southern member of the Hippolais family, Melodious Warbler, is a rare appearance. This species breeds in southwestern Europe with southern Netherlands (Limburg) as the northern border. The excellent discovery on May 18 of a bird at the lifeboat house on the Noordkop was the fourth record for Texel and only the first spring observation. Earlier there were records in the fall of 1997, 1998 and 2011.
