In the first post of 2021

a short impression of three bird species, a vagrant and two scarce winter species. The Black Guillemot, which has been in the harbor of Oudeschild since 2 January, is a rare bird. They are often seen flying over the North Sea. When they are present, it is usually in the NIOZ harbor or in the harbor of Oudeschild like this young bird.

The Goosander is a rare winter guest on Texel. These arctic diving ducks are usually seen flying overhead. Sometimes they are seen in canals or ponds like this female that swam around De Koog for a few days.

Whooper Swans are definitly scarce on Texel. Often only a few birds are seen in wintertime. Based on the same observation location, the couple in the photo was very likely also present in 2020.
