Despite the moderate weather

of the past few days, the first summer guests are trickling in. Chiffchaffs, Bluethroats, some Sand Martins, Wheatears and Garganeys have already been seen last week.

White and Pied Wagtails also show themselves. My expectation is that if the weather conditions improve, we will see a massive arrival of birds.

Until then we can hopefully enjoy the Black Guillemot that already for months is present in the harbor of Oudeschild. The bird is now in full breeding plumage and shows courtship behavior towards other species such as a male Eider. The Black-tailed Godwits are also preparing for the breeding season. Still often in groups, but some are already forming pairs and carefully starting courtship.
