In the past few weeks, some rare species were seen as 'usual' during this period of the year. A period with east wind provided favorable conditions during the spring migration. In April a few dozen Ospreys flew from south to north with a highest daily total of at least 8 birds on April 23. On that day a male Red-footed Falcon was also briefly present in the dunes north of De Koog. A second calendar year female Pallid Harrier stayed in the Tuintjes from 24 to 26 April. Unfortunately, a Citrine Wagtail found in De Nederlanden was only seen by the discoverer. The bird could not be found despite the rushing birders. A flying Red-rumped Swallow on April 22 and one on April 23 were only seen by a few observers. The birds were picked up among passing Barn Swallows. The first Dotterels of the spring were seen on April 15. It concerned 3 birds. A group of no less than 37 was seen in polder Eierland on 4 May. This beautiful species is observed every year on its way to their breeding grounds in Scandinavia and Northern Russia.
