On May 19 there was a small group of birders on the migration site in the Tuintjes. Around 11:40 a small falcon was noted that came flying from the south. Initially it was thought to Merlin Falco columbarius but when the bird came into sharper focus, the determination was quickly adjusted. It turned out to be an American Kestrel Falco sparverius which rapidly flew north. Further study is needed to determine which subspecies is involved. Only a few North American subspecies wintering in the south. If accepted by the CDNA it is a new species for the Netherlands!
