a month to go in 2014, we can already look back at a great year for the Texel avifauna. A brief review of the past 4 weeks; on October 29, a Siberian Lesser Whitethroat was seen in the Krimbos. On the first day of November, a Red Kite crossed the island. On 5 and 8 November a Little Bunting was seen in the coastal strip close to pole 33 on the Noordkop. Three Red Phalaropes stayed in the puddle at the Renvogelveld on 7 November. The first Waxwings, a group of eight, were seen on November 9 in Den Burg. Highlight of the month November is undoubtedly the record of a Pallid Swift around the Texel lighthouse from 12 till November 16th. The bird was regularly seen hunting and slept in a drainage hole in the lighthouse. This is the second record for Texel. The first record was on 25 October 2013. On various dates Siberian Chiffchaffs were reported. At the Slufter groups of Horned Larks and Twites wander around. In both species it comes to about 70 ex.
A special record is that of a first calendar Red-backed Shrike along the Schorrenweg. The bird is already present from November 13 and uses a flowering mustard field as a hunting ground. Mice, caterpillars and butterflies are part of his or her diet.
