Paarse Strandloper / Purple Sandpiper Calidris maritima, De Cocksdorp, Texel, 24-01-2015
The Purple Sandpiper is an annual winter guest on Texel. This resident of rocky tundra and peatlands in mountains of Iceland and Norway stays from September till April in small numbers along the coast. Much rarer is the Pink-footed Goose. Unlike the closely related Tundra Bean Goose this beautiful arctic breeding bird of Iceland, Greenland and Spitsbergen is in very small numbers and irregularly observed.
