Tomorrow, Friday, May 8th the Dutch Birding spring weekend starts. As always, the number of birders on the island these days will be above average and will therefore increase the chances of finding rare species. Recent days have seen an average of about 135 species per day! Real highlights, read rarities, still fail. But there is plenty of nice things to see such as Common Redstarts, Tree Pipits or Woodlarks in de Staatsbossen (the State Forests), Dotterels in the fields along the Hoofdweg or waders, terns and gulls in the wetland areas at the east side. Today found Red-necked Phalarope, a beautiful woman in summer plumage, at Dijkmanshuizen was certainly a (small) highlight.
