The winter months on the island are probably the most bird-rich of the year!
In a quantitative sense, that is. Thousands of geese, ducks and waders in northern regions have gathered on the island. The Wadden Sea, salt marshes, fields and grasslands offer in particular Brent, Greater White-fronted, Barnacle, Tundra Bean Geese, Wigeons, Golden Plovers, Curlews, Bar-tailed Godwits, Knots and Dunlins adequate food.
Of course there's always the icing on the cake!
Recent weeks, several Rough-legged Buzzards have be seen at various places in the dunes.
A 2nd cy Glaucous Gull was present in the Mokbaai on the 11th and 12th of January.
On January 10 a Puffin flew at Westerslag heading south.
Among the many Brent Geese are regularly seen some Red-breasted Geese with a maximum of four birds.
Also, multiple Hen Harriers are wintering on the island.
There were several sightings of Short-eared Owls. These nomads are seen especially along the eastern side. The maximum number is a group of seven at the Schorren.
