Fall migration in October. In addition to large numbers Song Thrushes, Redwings, Robins, Meadow Pipits and Goldcrests are often seen some vagrants this period.
Favorable weather conditions such as persistent easterly winds and occasional rain (preferably overnight) sometimes provide more surprises like this year.
An admittedly incomplete list sightings of scarce and rare birds in the month of October; dozens Yellow-browed Warblers, at least 5 Pallas's Leaf Warblers, 2 RADDE'S WARBLERS (3 and 9 Oct), Great Grey Shrikes, Waxwings, Eurasian Treecreepers, Little Buntings, Hoopoe, Rosy Starling, a late Wryneck (12 to Oct 16), Olive-backed Pipit (15 Oct), RED-FLANKED BLUETAIL (15 to Oct 18) Desert Wheatear (15 Oct) and Pied Wheatear (20 Oct).
