Yesterday, June 19th, a Lesser Grey Shrike was discovered along the Stengweg in De Cocksdorp. The bird finally flew over the sheep dike to polder Wassenaar and showed up beautiful. Today the bird is still present. It is the 10th record for Texel. The first record date of this species is 3 June 1964 and the second last record dates back 4 years ago, namely October 24, 2013.
The White-tailed Eagle, who crossed the Wadden Sea coming from Vlieland and flew south across Texel, caused great panic in hundreds of seagulls and waders. The birdwatchers who were looking at the shrike were very pleased with this surprise.
Another recent rare sighting on Texel concerns a Forster's Tern. This second calendar year bird was seen in the Wagejot on June 12th. This is the second record of this species ever on Texel. The first record was on April 10, 2016. The last observation date was May 6, 2016. This bird was then seen by many birders. Saillant detail; both birds were found by Sandwich Tern researcher Mardik Leopold while searching for colour-ringed birds.
