A vagrant is usually unexpected. So also this morning as I walked around the campsite De Robbenjager. Suddenly I saw a little heron flying near the lighthouse. White wings, dark brown back. A Squacco Heron! This breeding bird of South Europe has been seen only three times earlier on Texel, in 1908, 1921 and more recently in 2011. Then a bird remained from 26 May till 1 June at the campsite De Driehoek near the Ruigendijk. Probably the todays bird has flown to Vlieland.
