On 24 March, a beautiful adult drake King Eider Somateria spectabilis was discovered at Westerslag (post 15). This arctic duck species was seen on Texel 5 times before. The first record dates from 1981 and was a 2nd winter ♂. This was followed by records in the years 1993 (ad ♀), 2000 (1 ad ♂ and 2nd cy ♂) and 2014 (ad ♀). The bird moves between Eiders Somateria mollissima and is mainly seen between post 9 and post 17.
