Grote Burgemeester / Glaucous Gull Larus hyperboreus, 1e winter, De Cocksdorp, Texel, 11-01-2019
Yes, even in the winter months there is plenty to see on Texel. The large groups of Brent Geese are always a challenge. Is there a Black or White-bellied between? Or maybe a rare Red-breasted Goose? Groups of Snow Bunting mainly roam the beach on the North Sea coast. The chance of a meeting with a Rough-legged Buzzard or Short-eared Owl is certainly present. Both species have been observed with some regularity lately. Overwintering Hen Harriers can be seen in different places as well as the impressive Peregrine Falcon. It also pays to search for seagulls. Arctic species such as Glaucous and Iceland Gull have been seen in recent weeks. In short; watching birds in winter is definitely worth it.
