A short report of this month with some images of special and less special bird species. The month of April was relatively cold and wet with a few warmer days at the end.
The bird migration is lagging behind but will certainly get going in the coming days. Most of the summer visitors are back, but a few species are still little or not seen.
Particular mention should be made of Ross' gull, which was discovered on April 23 and was finally seen by several observers on April 25. After April 26, the bird seems to have left.
This is only the fourth record for Texel.
A group of no less than ten Glossy Ibises on April 27 is remarkable. Hoopoe also made an appearance in April with at least two different birds.
The stilt migration is getting underway, with a few rare species appearing almost every year. A Marsh Sandpiper is present since April 29 in polder Waal and Burg. Courting Ruff can also be seen in this nature reserve at the moment! And at the time of writing, the third Red-necked Phalarope is reported.
