In May, a new species for the Texel avifauna was found. This time a Great Spotted Cuckoo. It brings the total bird species seen on Texel to 404. The bird was discovered on May 2 in the Slufter and later found in the Muy. This southern European species has been present for over three weeks now and has no trouble finding its main food; caterpillars. Several Pallid and Montagu's Harriers were also observed in this month. Bee-eaters, Red and Black Kites, Ospreys, Honey Buzzards, Red-footed Falcons and many more passed through Texel. A late Waxwing on May 1 is worth mentioning. Most winter visitors have now left the island and most summer guests have arrived.
