In September, two American Golden Plovers, two Little Buntings, and several Red-footed Falcons were observed on Texel. Vagrants from the US and Eastern Europe. October is the peak month for migrating thrushes. In particular, Fieldfares, Song Thrushes, Blackbirds, and Redwings can be seen in large numbers during this time. Cattle Egrets have been regularly seen this year, with a maximum of six birds spotted on October 7. This southern European species is making its way northward. A typical autumn species is the Barred Warbler. This year, several birds have been seen, but fewer than average. Several passing Little Buntings and Richard's Pipits have now crossed Texel. This week, some Bohemian Waxwings have settled on berry-bearing shrubs and trees in De Koog. Unfortunately, observations of Northern European and Siberian vagrants are still lacking, but autumn is not yet over. The sighting of a Red-flanked Bluetail on October 8 has so far been the highlight.
