Just a few winter visitors...

06 February 2023

In the first weeks of 2023, the most notable species were two Snow Geese (status unknown), a Lesser White-fronted Goose, and a stray Cattle Egret. Snow Buntings are present every year, albeit in small numbers. In contrast, Wigeons overwinter in large numbers on Texel. Along the coast, in salt marsh areas like the Slufter and the Schorren, Rock Pipits are always seen during this time of year. Whooper Swans are scarce winter visitors. The adult birds in the photo are likely the same ones as in previous years—now with a new addition to the family!
